Le rêve de collecte de fonds - Construire un système 5K $ par mois pilote automatique

Last month I met with a retired football coach from Texas. He joined my board of directors to advise on marketing ideas. We spent about 9 hours discussing all kinds of products and services that could be used by pretty much any organization to raise funds.

"Coach" informed me that local schools in his area often draw 20,000 to 30,000 people to a weekend football game. Fundraisers for those schools often involved things like holding a bottle drive, selling chocolates, selling cookies, or selling t-shirts.

I quietly wonder just how many organizations out there could possibly be actively seeking new fundraising opportunities. I was shocked to find that there are between 60 and 90,000 registered organizations in America looking for fundraising ideas. There are even companies, websites, blogs and a ton of social media built around identifying fundraising opportunities.

I decided to do some research to find out what the pros and cons are for the typical fundraising organization. The answers were fairly indicative of what I expected to find.

1. The process requires a great deal of up front organization.
2. Products need to be acquired.
3. Parents need to drive kids around while they go door to door trying to sell.
4. There needs to be a good system for handling the cash.
5. Accounting often causes issues.
6. Sometimes returns are lower than expected and the club/organization doesn't make money.

It seemed to me that this was a very inefficient way of earning money for the club/organization. Parents are often very busy with their careers or businesses. The time constraints alone are burdensome.

Coach and I decide to play a little "what if" game.

What if an organization could simply go to a website and join an affiliate network for zero cost and zero obligation - No fees, no contracts, no obligations what-so-ever!

What if on that website clubs or organizations were provided a special link just for them? What if that link took people to a some kind of product that was in high demand, caused people to get healthy and to lose weight? And what if customers or supporters of the club/organization could purchase the product securely though PayPal and $10 from every sale went to the club? And what if the product was so successful that even repeat purchases by any customer continued to generate $10 per sale on an ongoing basis?

You can imagine by now that Coach was very excited. "Are you kidding me", he said.
"With only 100 people buying the product, to support their team, the team would generate $1000 in revenue! And if people bought the product every other month, there would be an ongoing revenue stream for the team!"

I suppose all of that is true, but in reality, the club or organization could run a new campaign every month if they wanted to. It wouldn't be long before they had a $5,000 per month revenue stream.... and there would have been none of the traditional issues and roadblocks around fundraising.

I believe that this fundraising model is going to become the standard operating model for all organizations looking to raise money for their clubs. With the efficiency of the Internet and the security of pay systems like PayPal now, the possibilities are endless.

Clubs and organizations need to seek out new relationships like the one described above. You need to find a producer willing to share the bulk of profits with local schools, clubs or organizations. It represents a social contract with society - a way of giving back to society. At the same time, it is a win-win for everyone - including the parents who no longer need to spend countless hours driving their kids around to sell cookies!
