Glen Ellyn is a village suburb of Chicago and is located in the DuPage County of Illinois State. Its coordinates are 41°52?16?N 88°3?47?W and it is located about 20 miles west of Chicago. Its total area is 6.6 square miles of which about 0.30% is water.

The Railroad first came to the village in 1849 and the first Congregational Church was built in 1862. The name Glen Ellyn was given in 1891 after being named, at different times, Babcock's Grove, DuPage Center, Stacy's Corners, Newton's Station, Danby and Prospect Park.

Its has the main campus of College of DuPage and also has several public and private schools. The most notable high schools in Glen Ellyn are Glenbard West High School and Glenbard South High School.

The average Home Value Index for here is $363,100. You can find some excellent homes in this quiet village and have a great time staying here.

Some of the things to do and see:

1. McAninch Arts Center -- The McAninch Arts Center houses some very good works of art and it is worth visiting whether you are an art connoisseur or not.

2. Village Links of Glen Ellyn -- This is a 9-hole golf course and has a reasonably challenging difficulty level. If you are an avid golfer, this one here is sure to challenge you.

3. Good Works Gallery -- For knick knacks and other fashionable items, Good Works Gallery is a great place to be.

4. Holes & Knolls Miniature Golf Course -- This miniature golf course is another fantastic place to spend time over a few rounds of golf.

5. Glen Oak Country Club -- The Glen Oak Country Club offers fine dining and golf for its members. Be sure to visit it when you become a resident.

6. Cab's Wine Bar Bistro -- This is one fine place if you want to unwind over a few glasses of wine or beer.

7. Buffalo Theatre Ensemble -- Playwright David Mamet gave this theater ensemble its name when he wrote American Buffalo and the current productions here are inspired by the writer's naturalistic and puritanical brand of storytelling. You may take Metra's Union Pacific Line to Glen Ellyn, then catch a cab from there to reach the place.
8. Anderson & Bohac Florists -- They are present in Glen Ellyn for more than 32 years and are the best known florists in the village. For some excellent selection of flowers, be sure to pay them a visit.

Glen Ellyn is well connected to Chicago by train and road. Metra's Union Pacific Line links Glen Ellyn to Chicago.

Glen Ellyn also has its share of celebrities. John and Jim Belushi are famous alumni of the College of DuPage. Apart from them, other notable natives are residents include Laurie Anderson, Bill Ayers, Matt Bowen, Jeffery Deaver, Larry Shue and Billy Williams, among others.
