Mark Griffiths, a Canadian career military man with an eye for social
marketing first began his journey into social marketing whilst
stationed with the United Nations in Bosnia, during the civil war which
left thousands dead and millions displaced. Mark was left with a sense
of duty to help those in need, yet it took nearly a decade for the
concept of Kings Farms Alpacas to come to life.
Today, Kings
Farms Alpaca’s has launched a program aimed at social programs focused
on assisting Peruvian Alpaca farmers to reach the difficult Canadian
market. The concept is simple, fair trade with farmers from Peru
bringing fine Alpaca wool products to the Canadian market for
distribution into the retail sector through direct channel marketing
and distribution.
Currently as CEO of Kings Farms Alpacas, Mark
and his wife Sandra have developed a micro enterprise in the Ottawa
region as model for the business and have seen tremendous results so
far. Working with this model, stated Mark, we see 400% markup and
increase of value for the products we are receiving from Peru. This is
good news for the Peruvian Federal Government, which has suffered
strong set back in the last decade due to loss of dollar versus
Peruvian Currency. Most importantly the need to find stable and secure
work for the countries indigenous population, nestled in the Andean
region the tribes of Peruvians have found it hard to find work in the
over populated LIMAN Capital.
Projects like the one
launched in a small town in outside of Ottawa shed light onto the need
for cooperation between counties like Canada and its southern
neighbors. With direct access to Peru, Mr. Griffiths is expecting to
see large returns for his efforts not only economically, but socially
as well. Mark explained “ With each product line I sell, I open up a
market for those most in need to find work, therefore, I know that this
is the best way for us in Canada to help those less fortunate.
Good
products, helping people and bringing the world to Canada, these are
the governing principles of Kings farm products. As Mark and Sandra
Griffiths prepare for their busy season, high above the Andean mountain
range the Hupiee Tribe are too preparing to supply Mark with the finest
in Alpaca wool products.
